No relief for drivers: Gasoline prices to rise
Monday, June 30, 2008
Florida Today -- Crude oil prices have reached a record high, leading AAA officials on Sunday to predict even higher gas prices in the coming weeks.

The Florida average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas was $4.039 on Sunday, compared with the national average of $4.079, according to AAA's daily fuel gauge report.

I dread having to evacuate for a hurricane this year. Bet gas will be extremely expensive.

At least the cost of fuel is increasing purchase of American products; because transportation costs are making imports more expense. Even Walmart is going to local producers. Problem is so many factories have been dismantled and shipped to China.

CyanSquirrel...good point. This is a 'depression', a word you will not see used by the media until long afer tha fact.

They can't even say "recession" as it is, now.

It'll be interesting to see how the global economy is affected when the main purchasing engine, the US, stops. China will wither, as will every other place which makes cheap, sub-standard goods.

Don't get me started on how "cheap" is many times actually more expensive. Buy a good $10 item one time, it lasts five years OR buy a cheezy $6 item every-other-year for the same length of time. Which costs more?

Wonder what would happen if, since we spend so much more of our budget on fuel than other economic sectors, the rest of the economy slowly withered away because fuel costs, like a flesh-eating bacterium, caused spending in every other area to atrophy? What then?

I agree Texjohn, if that happened, maybe they would drop it a little....

Also, why do you like to blame Bush for everything?? I know he's not a perfect president, but we could have a lot worse president in office. And I bet you do some stuff other people don't like, do they blame you for everything? I doubt it, although they may want to! So give him a break!

Its not the oil companies who determine the price, oil goes to the highest bidder. If you think they're getting rich, put your money where your mouth is and buy their stock.

These oil companies are a complete sham. The problem is they are buying the government with the fat cat profits they are making

I agree with doing something about the speculators, but as we have seen, when we decrease demand the refiners just cut production to keep prices high.

The United States needs to prosecute the oil speculators as "economic terrorist". This would begin to solve our oil price situation here in the U.S. Email your congressman!

Yeah, so much for supply and demand. The demand goes down 17% and the price goes up, up and away.

Like I have said before: Only in oil does demand go up, the price goes up.
Natural yes, but with oil, demand goes down, the price goes up because they still want the same return or more.

At least diesel prices have come down a dime in the past month. Part of this is #2 diesel is a summer blend, vs #1 for winter usage.
But at the whole sale level diesel is only 40 cents above gas, but at the pump diesel is 70 cents higher. Looks like the stations are screwing the diesel consumer, which is why everything else is going up in price.
