I didn't bother to look at the date! Hardly news being almost two years old.

August 1, 2008

HuffPo of all things.

I don't think things have changed for the better since that date. Sad, but true.

Love the comments all of you have your own twist on this. Guess that is why it is so hard for groups to make a difference. Too many battles being fought.

"DRILL, DRILL, DRILL," has become a mantra. It's catchy, and appeals to those who want easy answers. Those ultimately behind it have a clear financial interest in the drilling being done. The idea behind it was 'repositioned' to this simplistic phrase to appeal to those who latch onto to simplistic phrases and easy answers. There is NO DOUBT in my mind that this phrase was originally presented by a Marketing Guru at some trade association gathering, who encouraged their members to distribute themselves around the Republican Convention and, all at the same moment, to 'spontaneously' begin chanting it.

I guess this guy thinks we should build a wall around this country and not let any goods out or any goods in, and more that likely people too.

What does that sound like?

To say substantial domestic drilling would have little or no effect is ridiculous.

It would change the price landscape for the better.

At least if reality and fundamentals such as supply/demand were to prevail. For the last year, speculation is the only price driver.

Fix the speculation stranglehold first, then go on to produce without the constraints of phony price escalation killing the true supply & demand curve.

Remember what happened when G. Bush opened drilling to the East Coast? Prices dropped dramatically and immediately. That was with just the possibility of drilling, not actual drilling.

Were the USA to unlock its reserves, the OPEC (C=cartel=collusion=monopoly) prices would plunge.

We could break the manacle from our neck. Take the ring out of our nose.

With BHO, Pelosi, Reid & full control of the fed govt, do you think we'll see domestic production increased? /rhetorical question

We need to unlock and use our blessings -- produce.

The idea is to remove the weapon used back in the 70's by OPEC where there was an oil embargo and the US did not get shipments.

Wow if that isn't slanted left I don't know what is. BTW your example is horrible because Exxon-Mobil is in the end an American company which means that the profits will be coming back into the U.S. The idea is that an American company would be allowed to drill and therefore produce profits for America. Weather or not to drill depends on which side of the debate you fall on for nature conservation vs. oil independence.

This is the free enterprise system - sell to the highest bidder. The Republicans wouldn't have it any other way.

The idea of OIL independence is that there is sufficient capacity in our local borders so that if push came to shove, the US will not be crippled because someone else decided not to allow OIL to be shipped over seas.

Yes folks, it's owned by the company that owns it and has the rights. Remember, that is the American Way! So unless you control it, you pay.

Until they get the speculators out of the market the consumer will suffer. They will make what ever profit margin they want without concern for anyone but themselves.

This is a Huffington Post Article and..."Cenk Uygur is co-host of The Young Turks, the first liberal radio show to air nationwide. "

Says it all I think.

Of course and they will sell it at the price they think is good for them, not the price we want.... may be some people on this site will get it now...
Tonester, there is too much oil on the market for now, price raise because of greed and manipulation!

Even if that's the case, there will be more oil available in the market to purchase so by that alone will bring down the price of oil.

What interesting thoughts. Just think the big oil companies get subsidies from us for oil exploration.

The whole idea should have the focus on alternatives and bringing NatGas into the mainstream.

of course not. keeping it here adds to the inventory which would drop prices. the oil companies will move things where ever they can to keep that from happening.

Good point! One that many, or most, of us never thought about.
